Eliza Street (PADI Advanced open water diver)

Eliza loves the ocean and the unique connection she feels to her underwater world when diving. Diving has taught her to observe closely, as there is life all around us that is often overlooked. You can generally find Eliza looking for small invertebrates, like nudibranchs, on the ocean floor. Her love for ocean life inspired her to take the PADI Scientific Diving specialty course, which is helping her pursue her career goals of learning marine science. She is specifically interested in studying ocean acidification, as it is one of the most important problems our ocean faces and it directly affects Edmonds Underwater Park. She plans to extend this knowledge to others through communicating science and inspiring other students to become involved in diving and ocean activism. After a long dive, you can find Eliza eating any kind of fast food. When she is not diving, Eliza enjoys running cross country and track for her school, spending time with her cats Hughs and Huxley, and feeding her axolotl named Conception.

I speak up for the ocean because it covers more than 70% of the earth’s surface—and yet, people take it for granted. Marine animals cannot advocate for themselves, so I feel obligated as a diver to share what is at stake.
