Description: Translucent body with stripes that are reddish-brown and white. There may also be a number of fine blue spots on the carapace. The telson distinctly has twelve lateral spines.

Habitat and behavior: Typically found on pilings or floats. Often found on rocky reefs. Juvenile shrimp hide in crevasses during the day. Coon-striped shrimp start their lives as males, and then turn female after about 2 years old. They scavenge for a variety of dead materials, and are eaten by a variety of fish species and humans.
